Bio
Recruited from Heidelberg, Ken Mackie was a tall half-forward who hailed from a notable footballing bloodline, being the son of Collingwood pioneer Jack Mackie and the brother of Carlton centre half-back Gordon Mackie. He burst onto the scene at Fitzroy with a high strike rate, booting 15 goals in just seven senior appearances, but departed the Maroons after the 1931 season. After a brief period training with his brother at Carlton, Mackie found a permanent home at St Kilda in 1933, where his 184cm frame—significant for the era—allowed him to operate as a strong marking target. He became a serviceable regular for the Saints over six seasons, providing a reliable avenue to goal and structural support during a particularly lean era for the club.
