Bio

1 revision

Son of former Lion Dan Murray, Kevin Murray joined Fitzroy as a teenager in 1955 and quickly established himself as the spiritual leader of the club. While the Lions struggled on the field throughout the majority of his career, Murray remained a standout performer, eventually becoming the club's longest-serving player. His loyalty was tested by lucrative offers from wealthier rivals, and aside from a two-year stint captain-coaching East Perth in the WAFL, he dedicated his entire VFL career to the maroon and blue.

Renowned for his ferocity and courage, 'Bulldog' dominated the half-back line with desperate spoiling, strong overhead marking for his size, and signature long drop kicks. He possessed an immense will to win, often generating attacking drive from defence to lift his teammates during lean seasons. This relentless consistency saw him claim the 1969 Brownlow Medal at the age of 31, proving his elite standing even in the latter stages of his career.
