Bio
Recruited from Perth with pick five in the 2004 National Draft, Lance Franklin arrived at Hawthorn possessing a unique athletic profile that would eventually redefine the parameters of a key forward. Standing 199cm, he combined the aerial strength of a traditional spearhead with the agility and endurance of a midfielder, famously utilising his running power to wheel onto his left boot from long range. His tenure at Hawthorn was highlighted by a dominant 2008 season where he booted 113 goals, becoming the most recent player to reach the century milestone in a single year, and played a central role in two premiership campaigns before departing the club.
At the end of 2013, Franklin exercised his rights as a restricted free agent, completing a shock move to the Sydney Swans on a landmark nine-year contract after widespread expectations he would join Greater Western Sydney. The transaction remains one of the most significant in the game's history, placing intense scrutiny on his output which he largely met with consistent excellence. While a premiership with the Swans proved elusive across three Grand Final appearances, Franklin continued to pile on majors, claiming four Coleman Medals across his career and leading Sydney's goalkicking in eight separate seasons.
