Bio
Recruited from the Riverina stronghold of Ganmain, Laurie Carroll was a high-marking utility who briefly interrupted a legendary country football career to test himself in the VFL. Standing 187cm, he provided a formidable aerial presence for St Kilda across two seasons in the late 1940s before returning home to New South Wales. Carroll subsequently cemented his status as a regional icon in the South West Football League, featuring in seven premierships for Ganmain—including the celebrated 1957 flag won alongside eight other members of the Carroll family—and earning selection as the best player for New South Wales at the 1950 Brisbane Carnival. He is the father of long-serving Sydney Swans captain Dennis Carroll and the older brother of Carlton defender Tom Carroll.
