Bio
Recruited from the Swans' fertile Riverina zone of Ganmain, Wayne Carroll joined South Melbourne in the late 1970s just as the club entered its most turbulent era. A goal-kicking rover who often drifted forward to punish opposition defences, he possessed a natural nose for goal that saw him average better than a major per game throughout his career. Carroll was a member of the pioneering squad that transitioned the club from the Lake Oval to the Harbour City, playing a role in establishing the Swans' identity in Sydney during the early 1980s. While never fully cementing himself as a permanent fixture in the senior side, he remained a handy contributor during a period of significant instability before playing his final game in 1985.
