Bio
Recruited from Brunswick in the VFA, Len Worle faced the difficult task of breaking into an Essendon side at the peak of its powers. Joining the reigning premiers in the 1912 season, he managed four senior appearances—debuting in a Round 3 victory over Carlton—but ultimately couldn't cement a spot in a lineup that would go on to secure back-to-back flags. While his time at the elite level was brief, his commitment to duty was enduring; the brother of Collingwood player Tommy Worle (who was killed in action in 1917), Len served as a bombardier with the 2nd Field Artillery Brigade in Gallipoli and France during World War I. Remarkably, he enlisted again during World War II at the age of 53, serving with the Volunteer Defence Corps to complete a unique legacy of service across two global conflicts.
