Bio
Arriving at Victoria Park with a famous pedigree, Les Angus was the son of former Collingwood premiership captain George Angus and joined the club from the country town of Tresco-Lake Boga. A gifted all-round sportsman who played primarily as a wingman or half-forward, he relied on speed and strength to crack into the Magpies' formidable "Machine" lineup during their dominant 1928 campaign. Although he managed nine senior appearances and was considered a strong prospect for the future, his football journey was abruptly curtailed by hardship; he was forced to hang up the boots after just one season to return home and help save his family’s drought-stricken farm in the Mallee. While his own VFL career was left as a case of "what might have been," the Angus name returned to the elite level decades later through his son, Geoff, who played for Hawthorn in the 1970s.
