Bio
Drafted by the Western Bulldogs with pick 32 in the 2008 National Draft, Liam Jones began his career as a raw key forward who possessed elite athleticism but often struggled for consistency. Unable to cement a permanent spot in the Bulldogs' best 22, he was traded to Carlton at the end of 2014 for a modest draft pick, hoping to revitalise his career at Princes Park. After initially failing to make an impact as a forward for the Blues and facing the prospect of being delisted, Jones was reinvented as a key defender in 2017. The positional switch proved to be a career-saving masterstroke, as he rapidly transformed into one of the competition's premier intercept markers and spoils, known for his closing speed and desperation in defensive contests.
Jones became a mainstay of the Carlton backline until late 2021, when he stepped away from the AFL due to the league's vaccination mandate. After spending a season playing in the QAFL, he returned to the elite level in 2023, signing with the Western Bulldogs as a free agent and completing a unique full-circle journey back to his original club. Now established as a veteran leader at the Whitten Oval, Jones anchors the defence with the same aerial prowess that saved his career, providing crucial experience and stability to the Bulldogs' backline.
