Bio
Recruited from the Geelong Falcons via the 2008 Rookie Draft, Luke Delaney entered the AFL as a traditional, heavy-bodied full-back whose game relied on lockdown defence and spoiling rather than offensive rebound. He was eventually joined at Arden Street by his younger brother Cameron, though Luke found it difficult to cement a regular spot in the senior side, often finding himself stuck behind established key defenders Scott Thompson and Nathan Grima. Seeking greater opportunities, he requested a trade to St Kilda at the end of 2013 and immediately filled a void in the Saints' rebuilding backline, playing a career-high 25 games in his debut season for the club. However, as the game evolved to prioritise more mobile, intercepting defenders over pure stoppers, Delaney fell out of favour and was delisted at the conclusion of the 2016 season.
