Bio
Recruited from Glenelg with pick 30 in the 2015 National Draft, Mason Redman endured a slow burn to the start of his AFL career. He played sparingly across his first three seasons, often floating between the forward line and the reserves as he adjusted to the tempo of senior football. It was not until 2019 that he began to cement his spot in the best 22, eventually flourishing after making a permanent shift to the backline where his athleticism could be better utilised.
Redman established himself as a dashing half-back flanker, renowned for his long penetrating kick and aggressive run-and-carry. A cult figure among supporters for his visible passion and on-field energy, he evolved into one of the Bombers' most consistent performers, capable of both locking down opponents and generating drive via intercepts. Following a breakout 2022 season where he finished fourth in the Crichton Medal, Redman rejected the lure of returning home to South Australia as a restricted free agent, instead signing a long-term extension to remain a key leader in Essendon's defence.
