Family

Born into the prolific Outen footballing dynasty, Matt Outen arrived at St Kilda as a premiership-winning recruit from the Victorian Football Association. Having already tasted success with Williamstown in their historic 1907 flag triumph alongside his older brother Wyn, he crossed to the VFL in 1910 to bolster a Saints squad that was languishing at the foot of the ladder. He provided seasoned support during a bleak period for the club, featuring regularly throughout two difficult campaigns as the team battled for competitiveness. Although his time at the elite level was brief, concluding after the 1911 season, Outen is remembered as a reliable competitor from a famous family that became synonymous with football in Williamstown.
