Bio
Selected by Sydney with pick 14 in the 2017 National Draft from the Geelong Falcons, Matthew Ling arrived at the club as a highly touted prospect known for his elite speed and line-breaking ability off half-back. Despite his potential as a dashing defender with a damaging left foot, his tenure in the Harbour City was marred by persistent injuries, specifically chronic toe and Achilles issues that wiped out his first two seasons entirely. Ling finally broke through for his AFL debut in round 8 of the 2020 season, but he struggled to build momentum or secure a consistent spot in the senior side amidst ongoing fitness battles. Ultimately unable to replicate his junior form at the elite level, he managed just four games over four years before being delisted by the Swans at the conclusion of the 2021 season.
