Bio
Recruited by Carlton with pick 18 in the 2010 National Draft, Matthew Watson arrived at Princes Park as a highly touted key position prospect from the Calder Cannons. Standing at 195cm, he was primarily deployed as a key defender who utilised his significant frame and a thumping left-foot kick to rebound from defence, though he was occasionally swung forward where his long-range kicking became a scoring threat. Despite his raw physical tools, Watson struggled to adjust to the speed of the elite level and found it difficult to lock down a consistent spot in the senior side under multiple coaches. After managing just 23 games across five seasons, he was delisted at the conclusion of 2015 and continued his football journey in the WAFL with East Fremantle.
