Bio
Part of the famous Hughson footballing family, Mick Hughson was a talented centreman whose career was severely impacted by the timing of the Second World War. Playing alongside his brothers Les and club legend Fred, he established himself in the late 1930s as a highly skilled midfielder known for his precise passing and ability to take a beautiful high mark. His rise as a key playmaker for the Lions was interrupted by service with the RAAF, a commitment that cost him his prime years and the opportunity to play in Fitzroy’s historic 1944 premiership side captained by his brother. Hughson returned to Brunswick Street for two seasons after the war before retiring to captain-coach Fairfield.
