Family

Recruited from Edithvale-Aspendale, Mike Moncrieff established himself as a prolific avenue to goal for Hawthorn during the club's successful campaigns of the 1970s. A strong-marking tall forward with a reliable set shot, he possessed the versatility to play deep in the square or further up the ground, often capitalising on the delivery provided by a dominant midfield. Although he spent his early years sharing the forward line with the legendary Peter Hudson, Moncrieff flourished when given the primary role, topping the club's goalkicking for three consecutive seasons between 1976 and 1978. His contributions were instrumental in two premiership campaigns, playing a vital part in the 1976 and 1978 flag victories while forming a lethal attacking partnership with rover Leigh Matthews.

After 13 seasons and more than 600 goals in the brown and gold, Moncrieff's time at Hawthorn concluded at the end of 1983. Following a season in the VFA with Sandringham, he was thrown a lifeline by St Kilda in 1985, attempting a return to VFL level as a veteran presence for the Saints. However, the comeback was brief, resulting in limited senior opportunities before his permanent retirement. Despite the quiet conclusion at Moorabbin, Moncrieff is remembered as one of Hawthorn's greatest forwards, sitting comfortably inside the top tier of the club's all-time goal kickers.
