Bio
Selected with pick 7 in the 2011 National Draft, Nick Haynes was a foundation player for Greater Western Sydney who evolved from a lanky forward into one of the competition's premier intercept defenders. Throughout the Giants' formative years and their subsequent premiership windows, Haynes served as a defensive pillar, renowned for his elite reading of the play and unwavering courage to go back with the flight of the ball. His tenure in Sydney peaked during the 2020 season, where he claimed the Kevin Sheedy Medal and earned an All-Australian blazer, establishing himself as a damaging rebounding defender capable of consistently dismantling opposition entries.
After 211 games and 13 seasons in orange and charcoal, Haynes found himself on the outer under the Adam Kingsley regime in 2024, often relegated to the VFL as the club favoured a different defensive structure. Seeking a fresh opportunity, he exercised his rights as an unrestricted free agent to join Carlton ahead of the 2025 season. At the Blues, Haynes has provided a seasoned head to the defensive unit, utilising his aerial capacity and experience to support the club's backline while extending his career at the top level.
