Recruited from local side Malvern, Norm Collins began his VFL career at Fitzroy, where he followed in the footsteps of his brother, Goldie Collins. After two seasons with the Maroons yielded limited opportunities, he transferred to Carlton in 1926, seeking greater consistency at senior level. Primarily operating as a half-back flanker who could also rotate through the followers, Collins became a steady contributor at Princes Park, playing the bulk of his football with the Blues over a six-year stint. He finished his time in the league with a move to Hawthorn in 1932, bringing veteran experience to the Mayblooms' defence before retiring after a decade of service across three clubs.
