Bio
Recruited from local club Yarraville, Owen Madigan began his VFL career at the Western Oval but found senior opportunities scarce in a strong Footscray defensive unit. After managing just seven appearances across two seasons for the Bulldogs, he crossed to Richmond in 1963 in search of regular football—a move that paid immediate dividends. Madigan quickly established himself as a steady and reliable back pocket at Punt Road, playing 24 consecutive matches following his club debut. While he eventually found himself squeezed out of the senior side by the Tigers' emerging dynasty, his depth and commitment were recognised when he won the reserves best and fairest in 1965. The older brother of fellow Footscray player Norm Madigan, Owen eventually departed the VFL to continue his career in the VFA with Williamstown.
