Bio
Recruited from Monivae College in Hamilton, Paul Cranage was a dashing half-back flanker who made an immediate impact at Victoria Park, winning Collingwood’s Best First Year Player award in 1973. Renowned for his speed and willingness to back his judgement, he earned a reputation as a big-game performer who often stood tall in finals when more experienced teammates struggled. Despite establishing himself as a key pillar in the Magpies' defence, Cranage walked away from VFL football after just three seasons to return to the Western District as a teacher. He left a lasting legacy off the field, however, later returning to the club as reserves coach and famously alerting Collingwood recruiters to the talents of a young Phillip Walsh.
