Bio
Recruited from North Geelong, Paul Vinar established himself as a formidable full-back for the Cats after making his debut in 1959. A booming left-foot kick, he was renowned for his ability to launch massive torpedo punts from the goal square, often clearing the defensive zone with a single strike to set up attacking forays. While his long kicking drew attention, his defensive accountability and strong overhead marking were the cornerstones of his game, allowing him to match up effectively against the dangerous full-forwards of the 1960s.
Vinar was a key pillar in the Geelong defence during a golden era for the club, culminating in his selection at full-back for the victorious 1963 Grand Final side that defeated Hawthorn. His consistency during this period also earned him interstate honours, representing Victoria in 1964. He remained a fixture in the senior side until the end of the 1966 season, retiring as a premiership player and a highly respected figure at Kardinia Park.
