Bio
Recruited from Vermont, Percy Cummings holds a distinguished place in football history as the grandson of Joe Johnson, the VFL’s first recognised Indigenous player. A light-framed utility standing 178cm, Cummings broke into the senior side in 1964, making his debut as the 19th man during a period where Hawthorn was slowly building toward its first golden era. Although his playing career was restricted to five games and a single goal over two seasons, he struggled to cement a permanent spot in the lineup and was eventually delisted. His legacy at Glenferrie Oval extended well beyond his on-field tenure; Cummings later returned to the club as a long-serving member of the recruiting staff and bridged three generations of elite football as the father of Fitzroy and West Coast players Trent and Robert Cummings.
