Bio
Recruited from Central District with the prestigious sixth pick in the 1993 National Draft, Trent Cummings carried a significant football pedigree as the son of Hawthorn player Percy Cummings and the great-grandson of Joe Johnson, the VFL's first known Indigenous player. A running utility who typically lined up on a wing or at half-forward, he joined his elder brother Robert at Fitzroy during the club's tumultuous final years, managing 27 games for the struggling Lions but enjoying only three victories. When the club merged with Brisbane at the end of 1996, Cummings was overlooked for the Lions' inaugural list but received an AFL lifeline when West Coast selected him with pick 57. His time in Perth was heavily impacted by injury, including a knee reconstruction that delayed his start and a subsequent knee injury in the 1998 pre-season that ultimately forced his retirement after just two senior appearances for the Eagles.
