Bio
Recruited from New Norfolk in Tasmania, Peter Hudson arrived at Hawthorn with a prodigious reputation that he immediately justified, establishing himself as the most prolific goal-kicker in VFL history by average. Unlike the high-flying forwards of his era, Hudson relied on supreme football intelligence, sticky hands, and an uncanny ability to use his hips to protect the drop zone. He was a traditional full-forward who mastered the flat punt, possessing a clinical set shot that made him a nightmare for opposition defenders to contain one-on-one.
Hudson's career trajectory was heavily impacted by a severe knee injury sustained in Round 1, 1972, coming off the back of a premiership season where he equalled the all-time record of 150 goals. Following the injury, his time at Glenferrie Oval became sporadic as he balanced business interests in Tasmania with fleeting comebacks in 1973, 1974, and finally 1977. Despite these interruptions restricting him to 129 games, his average of 5.64 goals per match remains an untouchable League record, securing his status as a Hawthorn Immortal and an Australian Football Hall of Fame Legend.
