Family

The nephew of Hawthorn legend Peter Hudson, Simon Minton-Connell arrived at Carlton from North Hobart carrying the weight of significant expectation. While he showed promise at Princes Park, he found it difficult to command a permanent spot in a forward line dominated by Stephen Kernahan and was traded to Sydney in 1992. It was in the Harbour City that the strong-marking full-forward played his best football, topping the Swans' goalkicking list on three occasions. A traditional lead-up forward with excellent hands and accuracy, he provided a consistent avenue to goal during a lean era for the Swans.

Despite a prolific strike rate that saw him average nearly three goals a game, Minton-Connell became a journeyman of the 1990s. He crossed to Hawthorn in 1995, briefly wearing his uncle's famous number 26 guernsey, but injury and form restricted his impact before he finished his career with a short stint at the Western Bulldogs. Although he never settled at one club long enough to become an icon, he remains remembered as a highly effective key forward who could always be relied upon to hit the scoreboard when given the opportunity.
