Family

Recruited from Golden Point in the Ballarat league, Peter McConville established himself as a vital utility player during a golden era for the Carlton Football Club. A highly versatile swingman capable of holding down a key defensive post or drifting forward to become a dangerous marking target, he played an instrumental role in the Blues' 1979, 1981, and 1982 premiership victories. His ability to perform under pressure was highlighted in the 1979 Grand Final, where he booted important goals to help secure the flag against bitter rivals Collingwood.

After playing 101 games at Princes Park, McConville crossed to St Kilda in 1986, bringing significant experience and premiership pedigree to a struggling Moorabbin outfit. He quickly became a stabilizing figure for the Saints, often tasked with plugging holes in defence or providing a focal point in attack alongside Tony Lockett. He retired in 1990 just six games shy of the 200-game milestone, remembered as a courageous and reliable servant who offered tactical flexibility to every coach he played under.
