Bio
Recruited from Dalyston in the Bass Valley League, Peter McRae was a towering utility who broke into the Footscray lineup in the wake of the club’s 1954 premiership success. Standing 188cm and weighing nearly 100kg—colossal dimensions for the 1950s—McRae was a powerful physical presence capable of shouldering the ruck load or locking down a key defensive post. Although his VFL tenure was brief, he played a part in the Bulldogs' 1956 finals campaign, featuring in the First Semi-Final victory over Geelong before the side was eliminated by Collingwood. He eventually returned to Gippsland where he became a local legend, captain-coaching Wonthaggi to a premiership in 1962, and his football legacy continues in the modern AFL through his grandsons, Zach (Essendon) and Archer Reid (West Coast).
