Family

Recruited from Hawthorn City, Peter Russo established himself as a pacy and skilled wingman and rover during Hawthorn's dominant era in the 1980s. While often operating in the shadow of the club's high-profile superstars, Russo was a vital component of the Hawks' running game, though his time at Glenferrie Oval was heavily impacted by severe knee injuries. These setbacks notably forced him to miss the 1984 and 1985 Grand Finals, but his resilience was vindicated when he returned to feature in the club's 1986 and 1988 premiership victories.

Following the 1988 triumph, Russo was cleared to St Kilda, adding veteran experience to a developing squad at Moorabbin. He provided steady service over three seasons with the Saints, transitioning into a role that helped guide the younger demographic before retiring in 1991. He remains best remembered as a courageous fixture of Hawthorn's golden generation who successfully overcame significant physical adversity to become a dual premiership player.
