Arriving at the Junction Oval from Elwood CYMS, Felix Russo was a strongly built wingman who balanced his football career with his profession as a physical education instructor. Although he managed just 14 senior games for St Kilda between 1950 and 1951, he was noted for being taller and more robust than the typical outside runners of his era, using his fitness and powerful kicking to drive the Saints forward. After leaving the VFL, he carved out a distinguished tenure in the VFA with Sandringham, where he claimed a best and fairest award and served as captain. However, Russo's enduring footprint on the game is arguably his status as the patriarch of a genuine football dynasty; he is the father of Hawthorn premiership player Peter Russo and the grandfather of modern stars Josh Kennedy, Luke Ball, and Matthew Ball.
