Bio
Recruited from Burnie in Tasmania, Ray Stokes was a speedy and skillful winger who became a key component of Richmond's midfield immediately following the Second World War. Making his debut in 1946, he was renowned for his pace and balance, attributes that served him well as he cemented a regular spot in the senior side. His tenure at Punt Road included an appearance in the famous 1948 Grand Final draw against Essendon, though he ultimately missed out on a premiership medallion after the Tigers fell short in the replay. A gifted all-round sportsman who also represented Tasmania in first-class cricket, Stokes played 93 games for Richmond before returning to his home state after the 1951 season.
