Stats
Bio
Arriving at Brunswick Street from Heidelberg West, Reg Nicholls was a stout defender who became a mainstay of the Fitzroy backline in the years immediately following World War II. The younger brother of Geoff Nicholls, who also represented the Lions, Reg was a versatile operator capable of holding down a key defensive post or rebounding from a half-back flank. His consistent form was recognised with three selections for Victoria and appointment as the club's vice-captain, playing a crucial role in the side's run to the 1947 preliminary final. Despite being in the prime of his career, he left the VFL after five seasons to accept a captain-coaching position with Golden Point in the Ballarat Football League, where he eventually steered the club to a premiership.
