Family

Recruited from Burwood United, Rob Dowsing arrived at the Melbourne Football Club with significant pedigree as the son of former Demon Roy Dowsing. Standing just 173cm, he was a diminutive small forward and rover with a sharp eye for the big sticks, evidenced when he booted two goals on debut in 1966. Despite a handy strike rate of better than a goal a game, he struggled to cement a permanent spot in the senior lineup over three seasons and sought a fresh start at South Melbourne in 1969. The move completed a unique family circle, as he followed in the footsteps of his grandfather, Alf Dowsing, who had represented the club in the early 20th century. He added four final VFL appearances at the Lakeside Oval before departing the league to play for Prahran in the VFA.
