Bio
Drafted by North Melbourne with pick 15 in the 2007 National Draft, Robbie Tarrant arrived at Arden Street with high expectations as the younger brother of Collingwood star Chris Tarrant. His early career was defined by resilience rather than on-field performance, as chronic shoulder instability limited him to just a handful of appearances in his first five seasons. Originally deployed as a key forward, Tarrant struggled to find consistency until a permanent switch to the backline in 2015 revitalised his trajectory. He quickly established himself as one of the league's premier key defenders, renowned for his closing speed and ability to nullify the competition's strongest forwards. His reliability was rewarded with a Syd Barker Medal in 2016 and a long tenure as the Kangaroos' vice-captain.
After 14 seasons and 174 games with North Melbourne, Tarrant exercised his free agency rights to join Richmond ahead of the 2022 season. The move occurred as the Kangaroos committed to a deep rebuild, allowing the veteran to pursue finals football while the Tigers sought an experienced replacement for retiring defenders. He played 20 games in his debut season at Punt Road, providing crucial structural stability, but persistent hip and back issues eventually caught up with him. Tarrant announced his retirement midway through the 2023 season, finishing his career as a highly respected clubman who overcame significant injury hurdles to play nearly 200 games at the highest level.
