Bio
Recruited from local side Essendon Baptists, Ron Evans burst onto the scene in the late 1950s as a prolific, if unlikely, full-forward. Despite a slender frame that seemed ill-suited to the physical demands of the goal square, Evans used his deceptive reach and vice-like hands to become a contested marking force, winning back-to-back Coleman Medals in 1959 and 1960. His playing time at Windy Hill was surprisingly brief; after injury and form issues saw him lose his spot to Charlie Payne during the 1962 premiership season, he headed west to dominate the WAFL with West Perth. While his on-field exploits were elite, Evans is perhaps best remembered as a giant of football administration, returning to save the Bombers as President in the late 1980s before serving as the AFL Commission Chairman for nearly a decade.
