Family

The son of former Melbourne and South Melbourne forward Lou "Pop" Reiffel, Ron Reiffel was a dedicated Tiger whose influence extended far beyond his brief senior career. Recruited from St Ignatius YCW, he achieved the rare feat of progressing through the Thirds, Reserves, and Senior sides all in the single 1951 season. Standing 175cm, Reiffel operated as a utility and defender, typically lining up in the back pocket or on a half-back flank during his six VFL appearances. After leaving Punt Road to win premierships and Best and Fairest awards with the Abbotsford Brewery team, he returned to Richmond to build a lasting administrative legacy. Reiffel served as the Secretary of the Former Players and Officials Association for 20 years and became the club's inaugural museum curator in 1996, preserving the Tigers' history while his own sporting lineage continued through his son, Australian Test cricketer Paul Reiffel.
