Bio
Recruited from the Northern Territory, Russell Jeffrey was a pioneering Indigenous talent who entered the VFL with Geelong as a skillful running defender. After struggling to cement a regular spot at Kardinia Park, he crossed to St Kilda in 1987, where he played the majority of his football and became known for his rebounding capacity from half-back. Despite possessing natural flair, Jeffrey battled consistency issues and injuries throughout his time at Moorabbin, eventually moving to the Brisbane Bears for a final season in 1992. While his tally of 50 games was modest, he remains recognised for his role in paving the way for future Indigenous players and his significant post-playing contribution to coaching and development programs.
