Bio
The son of former St Kilda and Brisbane player Russell Jeffrey, Joel Jeffrey joined the Gold Coast Suns as a highly rated Academy product, granted pre-selection access due to his Northern Territory roots. An athletic utility with clean hands and a prodigious vertical leap, Jeffrey began his career as a forward who could produce spectacular highlights, yet he eventually transitioned into a defensive role to better utilise his intercept marking and distribution skills. Despite glimpses of high-end talentโparticularly during the club's fixtures in Darwinโhe struggled to find the consistency required to become a permanent fixture in the Suns' best 22 throughout his tenure. Over his first six seasons, he oscillated between senior selection and the VFL, often fighting for his spot as a rebounding defender while working to close the gap between his best and worst football.
