Family

Recruited from the Calder Cannons with pick 56 in the 1999 National Draft, Ryan O'Keefe evolved from a flanker into one of the AFL's premier two-way runners. Renowned for his supreme fitness and booming left foot, he defined the role of the hardworking half-forward who could accumulate possessions up the ground and impact the scoreboard. His relentless running power allowed him to act as a vital link man in the Swans' game plan, eventually transitioning into the midfield where his contested work and tackling pressure became key assets.

Although he spent his entire career in Sydney, O'Keefe famously requested a trade to Victoria following the 2008 season, only to recommit to the Swans when a suitable deal failed to materialise. That decision secured his legacy, as he went on to win a Best and Fairest in 2009 and claim the Norm Smith Medal during the club's 2012 premiership triumph. A dual premiership player and All-Australian, O'Keefe retired in 2014 as a celebrated club stalwart who set the standard for professionalism and endurance.
