Recruited from the Northern Bullants with pick 13 in the 2024 Mid-Season Rookie Draft, Saad El-Hawli arrived at Essendon as a mature-age prospect who forced his way onto an AFL list through dominant VFL form. A dynamic half-back flanker characterised by his intercept marking and urge to take the game on with aggressive run-and-carry, he made a swift transition to the elite level, earning his debut against rival Carlton only weeks after joining the club. Although an ankle injury interrupted his maiden campaign and limited his continuity, El-Hawli showed glimpses of his capacity to break lines and generate drive from the back half. He remains a developing rebounding defender looking to secure a permanent position in the Bombers' defensive rotation.
