Recruited from Tasmania with pick 29 in the 2021 National Draft, Sam Banks arrived at Punt Road as a polished ball-user capable of playing across half-back or on a wing. After spending his entire first season developing in the VFL, he made his debut late in the 2023 season and required patience to break into the senior lineup during a period of transition for the club. A neat distributor by foot with strong running power, Banks gradually evolved from a fringe prospect into a reliable rotation player, utilising his versatility to provide drive from defence and through the midfield as he established himself within the Tigers' core group.
