Sam Clohesy arrived at Gold Coast as a mature-age recruit, having claimed the prestigious Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medal as the VFL's most promising young player while starring for Werribee. Selected by the Suns in the Rookie Draft prior to the 2024 season, he wasted little time adapting to the elite level, utilising his elite endurance to impact games immediately upon his debut against Greater Western Sydney. Operating primarily as a wingman or running defender, Clohesy is characterised by his high work rate, sound decision-making, and capacity to link play between the arcs. After a consistent start to his career where he featured regularly in his first two seasons, he has established himself as a reliable fixture in the Suns' best 22, offering structural discipline and transition running to the Gold Coast lineup.
