Bio
Recruited from Haileybury College, Sean Ralphsmith was a versatile tall initially touted as a forward prospect who faced the difficult task of breaking into Hawthorn's powerhouse lineup of the late 1980s. Stuck behind a legendary attack at Glenferrie Oval, he managed just four senior games before being traded to St Kilda ahead of the 1991 season in search of greater opportunity. He reinvented himself as a defender at Moorabbin, playing 30 games over four seasons, though he remained on the fringe of the best 22 and struggled to maintain consistency at the top level. A serviceable depth player during his time in the league, his football legacy has continued in recent years through his son, Hugo, who was drafted to Richmond in 2019.
