Bio
Recruited from the prolific football nursery of St Mark's College in Fawkner, Stephen Buckley had football in his blood as the son of former Carlton ruckman Brian Buckley. A capable, dual-sided utility who combined ground-level skill with overhead ability, he served a strong apprenticeship in the under-19s and reserves before breaking into the Blues' senior side in 1980. His debut came under memorable circumstances, as he was a late inclusion for the reigning premiers after his namesake—Jim Buckley—withdrew due to illness. Despite showing promise in six games for the powerhouse club, the depth of Carlton's list limited his opportunities, prompting a move to North Melbourne in 1983 where he added two final games to his VFL career.
