Family

The son of former Geelong and Essendon player Ron Lunn, Stephen Lunn was a mature-age recruit who had to be convinced he was good enough for VFL football. Plucked from Geelong West in the VFA at age 24 after a standoff over his clearance, he made an immediate impact at Kardinia Park in 1980 as a pacy wingman and half-back flanker. Lunn possessed genuine speed and an attacking mindset, often breaking lines to drift forward and hit the scoreboard, averaging well over a goal every two games during his time with the Cats. After three seasons and 48 games in the hoops, he headed up the highway to join Footscray in 1983, reuniting with his former Geelong coach Bill Goggin at the Western Oval. He added another 21 games to his tally as a running utility for the Bulldogs before retiring at the end of the 1984 season.
