Bio
Recruited from St Peter’s, Ted Fidge was a nuggety, powerful forward who battled significant injury setbacks during his time at Melbourne. The older brother of fellow Demon John Fidge, he was known for his physical strength and ability to hit the scoreboard, notably kicking 27 goals in 1985 despite standing just 175cm. His career was plagued by interruptions, causing him to miss the entire 1984 and 1987 seasons, though he remained a solid contributor at Reserves level where he featured in a premiership. Fidge’s VFL career ended in memorable and controversial fashion in 1988 when he was suspended for six weeks for striking Collingwood enforcer Darren Millane, an incident that cemented his reputation for toughness. After being delisted following groin surgery, he continued his football journey as a captain-coach for Sale in the Latrobe Valley and later played for Werribee in the VFA.
