Bio
A diminutive wingman and half-forward, Teddy Shorten holds a unique place in history as a member of North Melbourne's inaugural VFL side in 1925. After transitioning with the Shinboners from the VFA, he played the opening round of the 1926 season before crossing to Essendon mid-year to play alongside his cousin, George Shorten. Despite his slight frame—weighing just 58kg—he managed to feature in the Dons' 1926 finals campaign, including a preliminary final, during a brief stint at Windy Hill. While his senior playing career was short-lived, Shorten remained a significant figure in league circles, eventually returning to the VFL as a boundary umpire before officiating 144 matches as a goal umpire between 1939 and 1949.
