Bio
Recruited from North Launceston in Tasmania, Toby Nankervis was selected by Sydney with pick 35 in the 2013 National Draft. Despite showing promise as a competitive tall, he found his pathway blocked by established ruckmen Mike Pyke and Kurt Tippett, managing just 12 senior games in three seasons. Seeking greater opportunity, he requested a trade to Richmond at the end of 2016. The Tigers secured him for pick 46, a transaction that would prove to be one of the most astute recruiting decisions of the era as he immediately filled a critical void in their lineup.
Nankervis became a pivotal figure in the Tigers' dynasty, redefining the ruck role with his combative, follow-up work at ground level. While often conceding height to opponents, his aggression, high tackle numbers, and ability to drift back as an intercept marker made him instrumental in the 2017, 2019, and 2020 premiership victories. His standing at the club was further cemented when he was appointed captain in 2022โinitially sharing the role before taking sole chargeโtasked with leading a regenerating list with his trademark grit and uncompromising physical standards.
