Family

Trent Hotton followed the rare trajectory of his father Stan by representing both Collingwood and Carlton, though his journey required significant persistence. Recruited to Victoria Park from East Burwood, the mobile tall showed flashes of ability during a four-year stint with the Magpies but failed to cement a permanent role and was delisted at the end of 1997. After spending two seasons out of the AFL system playing for Mansfield in the GVFL, Hotton was offered a lifeline by the Blues as a mature-age selection, where he quickly proved his worth as a versatile key position player. Often deployed as a lead-up centre half-forward, he used his strong aerobic capacity and reliable overhead marking to provide a structural focal point during Carlton's finals campaigns in 2000 and 2001. Despite his solid contribution as a recycled player, he was delisted following the club's tumultuous 2002 season.
