Bio
Recruited from Trafalgar in the Latrobe Valley, Trevor Somerville was a towering ruckman who arrived at South Melbourne as the younger brother of Essendon premiership player John Somerville. Standing 193cm, he offered significant height in the ruck contests for the Swans, enjoying a promising debut season in 1963 where he featured in 16 senior matches. While he remained a serviceable option for five seasons at the Lakeside Oval, he eventually struggled to command a permanent spot in the senior lineup, managing just seven appearances in his final two years. Following his VFL career, Somerville established a strong legacy in regional football, coaching North Launceston in Tasmania before returning to Gippsland to captain-coach Sale to a premiership in 1971.
