Bio
Selected by Carlton with pick 11 in the 2012 National Draft, Troy Menzel arrived at Princes Park as a highly touted forward prospect, joining his older brother Daniel in the AFL system. A silky left-footer with natural goal sense and strong overhead marking ability for his size, he quickly showed glimpses of elite talent, particularly during a promising 2014 season where he became a key avenue to goal for the Blues. Despite his high ceiling, Menzel was traded to the Adelaide Crows at the end of 2015 as part of Carlton's aggressive list regeneration under incoming coach Brendon Bolton, a move driven by concerns regarding his durability and defensive work rate. The return to South Australia failed to spark his career, however, as he struggled to meet conditioning standards and could not displace established players in the Crows' potent forward line, resulting in his delisting after just two seasons at the club.
