Bio
Recruited from the tiny Mallee town of Woomelang, Wayne Primmer was a skillful, fair-haired rover who compensated for a slight frame with lightning reflexes and an uncanny sense for goal. He made his most significant mark at Windy Hill in 1978, where he booted 47 goals to finish as Essendon’s leading goalkicker—an impressive feat for a crumbing small forward. Despite this potent output, Primmer’s VFL career was surprisingly brief, ending after just three seasons when he transferred to the SANFL to play for West Torrens in 1980. Although he attempted a return to Essendon’s list in 1982, he ultimately forged a long and respected tenure as a captain-coach in regional Victoria, leading clubs such as Lalbert, Hamilton, and Benalla throughout the 1980s.
